A Morning Hymn

A Morning Sacrifice of Praise and Prayer

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name.  And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
Hebrews 13: 15-16 (NIV)

In early August 2006 I got to thinking about the way we approach corporate worship in our churches.  So often we arrive with our minds and hearts in a tangle of thought and emotion carried with us from the hectic pace we set for ourselves from day to day; the product of the many slights and hurts we have experienced during the week.  Even as we look around at those gathered with us to worship, it is so easy to let ourselves dwell on those people rather than the one we all worship.

The words above are intended as a song of praise and recognition; of the love God shows for us, of our willingness listen as He speaks to us, and our desire to allow Him to shape our daily lives.

Sing them when you join with others in worship, or sing them quietly as you sit at your computer, but sing them with your heart, even more than your voice.
