For Holly

It seems so long we’ve been apart
yet the thought of you still tugs my heart
I remember the child climbing in my chair
and letting grandma brush her hair.

I remember the girl who took a sprawl
when on the monkey bars she tried to crawl
and the look on your face when snowflakes swirled
outside our car in your brand-new world.

I remember you too, on our front porch,
when your world had been set to the torch;
a promise made that I’d still be here
if ever you needed to come shed a tear.

From Poppa, I’m still here and still loving you. October 4, 2009
