I Have No Treasure

To Holly,

I have no treasure to bring you,
No riches to lay at your door,
But in this box of black walnut
Rests love for you evermore.

You came into my life as a wee child,
I loved you right from the start;
You gave me so many mem’ries
That soon quite filled up my heart.

Now in this box of black walnut
I hope you’ll build up a store
Of treasures meant to remind you
Of things that made your heart soar.

As you are my first granddaughter
I hope that you will always know
No one can supplant or replace you
Nor change my love for you, you know

This little poem was written to go with a black walnut box with brass hinges that I made for Holly’s Christmas present.

To Grace,

I have no treasure to bring you,
No riches to lay at your door,
But in this box of black walnut
Rests love for you evermore.

I love your smiles and your laughter
I love your welcoming hugs
I’m so proud that you’re my granddaughter
Even when we go visiting bugs.

So keep this note under your puzzle
And whenever you feel a bit blue
Take it out and just read it over
And remember that I still love you.

This poem was included in a very similar black walnut box containing a wood puzzle, also in walnut, copied from one that was given to me when Blake was a young boy at home that. Grace enjoyed solving it too.  It was all hand crafted in my workshop just for her.
