On Our Golden Wedding

Just fifty years since that day when
Two young lives were joined into one;
Two young hearts looked happily forward
To a life filled with joy and with sun!

That joy has been mixed with some sadness
That sun has been spangled by rain.
But all through the years we’ve grown closer
And echoed that young love’s refrain.

The friends that we’ve made we’ve cherished
As some of the joys that were the best,
And hope that this happy occasion
Will with their presence be blessed.

Please come and help polish the memories
You share of the days gone before.
Let this be the gift that you bring then
When you come as a friend to the door.

Announcement and Invitation composed for the Cambridge Reporter on the occasion of my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary on February 12th, 1969.

Incidentally when I started to type this in to my computer files I discovered the date was February 12th, 2010 – which would have been their 91st anniversary.  Coincidence!

Mom and Dad were married in February 12th, 1919 at ages 25 and 17 against the expressed wishes of both of their families.  Marriages between protestants (mother) and catholics (father) were much discouraged and in fact often forbidden.
