"Then those 'sheep' are going to say,Â
'Master, what are you talking about?Â
When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink?Â
And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?'Â
Then the King will say,Â
'I'm telling the solemn truth:Â
Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored,Â
that was me—you did it to me.' Â
Matthew 25: 37-40 (The Message)
In April 2006 eighteen significant leaders representing moderate Baptists across North America met in Atlanta, Georgia to discuss ways of working together for God's purposes. Â The document they signed includes thes words:
"…They reaffirmed their commitment to traditional Baptist values, including sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and its implications for public and private morality. They specifically committed themselves to their obligations as Christians to promote peace with justice, to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, care for the sick and the rnarginalized, welcome the strangers among us, and promote religious liberty and respect for religious diversity. They also agreed to plan for a convocation of Baptist people to celebrate these historic Baptist commitments and to explore other opportunities to work together as Christian partners."
The above lyrics were meant to express the values affirmed by this group.
May God guide and use us, his people, to do his will.
