Little Ruthie

Little Ruthie’s turning fifty?
How can that ever be?
It seems just like yesterday
She rode upon a knee.

She smiled and giggled happily,
With eyes so shiny bright
And stole the hearts of everyone
As If that were her right.

Too soon was she sent off to school,
A whole new world appeared
Of games and friends and other things
That brought her joys and tears.

She watched her father fade away
With love that still burned true
For all of those who shared her pain
As family’s wont to do.

Came wedding bells, a pretty bride,
Walked down the aisle so slow;
To meet a future veiled in mist
That only God can know

As daughters came her spirit grew
And strength to meet each test
Locking each child within her heart
And each one she loved the best.

She worked and scrimped throughout the years
To meet their every need,
And seldom let the world around
See her own hurt and tears.

She lost her mother and that support
Was sorely missed for sure,
But Ruth, the mother, stood on her feet.
With a mother’s love strong and pure.

Those girls grew up, a mother’s pride,
Rang in her voice and stance
As they, in turn, worked and grew
To join life’s whirling dance.

And now they’re all grown,
Daughters—Chrissy, Sarah and Carol,
But still a loving mother’s heart
Would protect them from all peril.

Then on November 22nd, 2008
A new note was added to the song,
And she became a, “Grandma”
When grandson Braedon came along

I guess at that we must admit,
With all that’s come to pass,
It’s only fair that she should start
Her second half-century at last.

Happy 50th Birthday!

And may God bless and keep you in the days and years ahead.
